En 1996, Devastación editó Decadencia, con 8 canciones en formato cassette. Luego de la salida del guitarrista Guillermo Lamadrid, quien había grabado en el anterior lanzamiento, Maquinarias de poder.

La banda quedó conformada por Walter Ortiz en guitarra y voz, Gonzalo Giuliano en bajo y Gustavo Quiroga en batería. 

Para los shows en vivo contaron con la ayuda del guitarrista Luis Antimilla, oriundo de San Carlos de Bariloche, quien también colaboró con algunos arreglos y guitarra acústica en "Decadencia".
